REVE Systems Ltd. (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Nuraya - Prayer Times and Qibla Finder mobile application (the “App”) handles information when you use it on your Android or iOS device.
We have designed the App to be privacy-friendly by default. We do not operate user accounts, we do not show advertising, and we do not sell your data. Prayer times, Qibla direction and your settings are processed entirely on your device. To keep the App stable and improve it, the App uses Google Firebase for crash reporting, anonymous usage statistics and optional announcements, as described in Section 2.5. Your precise location never leaves your device.

2. Information the App Handles
The information in Sections 2.1–2.4 is processed locally on your device and is not uploaded to REVE Systems Ltd. The only information that leaves your device is described in Sections 2.2 (city search) and 2.5 (Firebase).
2.1 Location Data
- The App uses your device’s GPS and/or network-based location to determine your latitude and longitude.
- Your coordinates are used to (a) calculate accurate prayer times for your geographic location, and (b) compute the direction of the Qibla (the bearing toward the Kaaba in Mecca) relative to your current position.
- The App requests location only while it is in use. It does not access your location in the background.
- If you deny location permission, the App falls back to your device timezone or a default location (Mecca) so that core features continue to work.
2.2 City and Address Information
- The App may convert your coordinates into a human-readable city or place name using your device’s built-in geocoding services (provided by the operating system).
- You may also manually select a city. Recently selected cities are stored on your device for convenience.
- When you search for a city by name, the text you type is sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service to find matching places. Your coordinates are not sent with the search.
2.3 Compass / Sensor Data
- The App reads your device’s magnetometer (compass) sensor in real time to display the Qibla direction.
- Compass readings are used live and are not stored or transmitted.
2.4 Preferences and Settings
The App stores the following on-device using your operating system’s standard preference storage:
- Selected prayer time calculation method and madhab (school of jurisprudence).
- Per-prayer reminder settings (enabled/disabled, reminder type — Adhan, Tone, or Vibrate — and how many minutes before the prayer to remind you).
- Auto-detect-location toggle, current location, and recent cities list.
- Announcements on/off setting.
- First-launch / onboarding flag.
2.5 Crash Reports, Usage Statistics and Announcements (Google Firebase)
The App uses the following Google Firebase services. Google processes this information on our behalf as a service provider.
| Service | Information sent | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash and error details (stack trace, the screen that was open), device model, operating system version, App version, and a random installation identifier. | To find and fix crashes and errors. |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | Screens you open, and actions such as changing the calculation method, madhab, language or theme, turning prayer reminders or the Adhan on or off, and sharing the App. Also your country (as a country code), your chosen calculation method, madhab and App language, device model, operating system version, App version, and a random App instance identifier. Google may derive an approximate region from your IP address. | To understand, in aggregate, how the App is used, so we can improve it. |
| Firebase Cloud Messaging | A push token for your device and the announcement topics it is subscribed to (general and your App language). | To deliver occasional announcements about the App. |
- Your precise location, coordinates, city and address are never sent to Firebase. Only your country is included.
- The App does not collect the advertising ID (Android Advertising ID or Apple IDFA), and the data is not used for advertising or to track you across other apps and websites.
- The identifiers above are random. They are not linked to your name, email, phone number or any account.
- You can stop announcements at any time in Settings → Announcements, or by turning off notifications for the App in your device settings.
For more information, see Google’s Privacy and Security in Firebase and the Google Privacy Policy.
2.6 Information We Do Not Collect
- No name, email address, phone number, or contact information.
- No advertising ID, IMEI, or other hardware identifiers.
- No precise location history.
- No contacts, photos, microphone audio, camera images, SMS, or call data.
3. Device Permissions We Request
| Permission | Platform | Why It Is Used |
|---|---|---|
| Location (Fine & Coarse / When In Use) | Android & iOS | To calculate prayer times and Qibla direction for your location. Used only while the App is in use. |
| Notifications | Android (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) & iOS | To display local prayer-time reminders that you enable, and announcements unless you turn them off. |
| Schedule Exact Alarm | Android | To deliver prayer reminders at the exact scheduled time. |
| Receive Boot Completed | Android | To re-schedule your prayer reminders after the device restarts, so you don’t miss them. |
| Wake Lock | Android | To briefly keep the device awake while delivering a prayer notification. |
| Compass / Magnetometer Sensor | Android & iOS | To display the Qibla direction in real time. No special runtime permission is required. |
You can change or revoke any of these permissions at any time from your device’s system settings. If you revoke location or notification permissions, related features will be limited or unavailable.
4. How Information Is Used
The information described above is used to:
- Calculate daily prayer times using offline algorithms (no API call is made for prayer times).
- Compute Qibla direction relative to your position.
- Display the Hijri (Islamic) calendar date.
- Schedule and deliver local prayer-time reminders, including playing the Adhan audio bundled with the App when you choose that reminder style.
- Remember your preferences between sessions.
- Detect and fix crashes, and understand in aggregate which features are used (Firebase Crashlytics and Analytics).
- Send occasional announcements about the App (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles of individual users.
5. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We share information only with the service providers described in Section 2: Google (Firebase Crashlytics, Analytics and Cloud Messaging), which processes data on our behalf to provide those services, and the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service, which receives the city names you search for.
We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Data the App stores on your device stays there. You can delete it at any time by:
- Clearing the App’s storage from your device’s system settings, or
- Uninstalling the App, which removes all locally stored data.
Data sent to Firebase is kept for a limited time and then deleted automatically: Crashlytics crash reports are kept for up to 90 days, and Analytics event data for up to 14 months. Uninstalling the App or clearing its storage resets the random identifiers, so new data can no longer be connected to earlier data.
7. Security
Settings and preferences are stored in your device’s app-private storage area, which is sandboxed by the operating system and not accessible to other apps under normal conditions. We recommend that you keep your device’s operating system up to date, use a screen lock, and avoid installing the App on rooted/jailbroken devices, as these can weaken the OS-level protections that this App relies on.
Information sent to Firebase is encrypted in transit.
No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children’s Privacy
The App is appropriate for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App does not ask any user for personal information such as name, email or phone number. The crash reports and anonymous usage statistics described in Section 2.5 are collected the same way for all users. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can address the matter.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR, California under the CCPA, or other jurisdictions), you may have rights regarding personal data, including:
- The right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you.
- The right to object to or restrict certain processing.
- The right to data portability.
- The right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
The data sent to Firebase is tied only to random identifiers, not to your name or contact details, so in most cases we cannot identify which data belongs to you. You can stop announcements in Settings, and you can reset the identifiers by clearing the App’s storage or reinstalling the App. If you still wish to exercise any right, you can contact us using the details below.
10. International Users
The App is offered globally. The information described in Section 2.5 is processed by Google, which may store and process it on servers in the United States and other countries. Google applies appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to these transfers.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or in legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and post the revised policy at the same URL. Significant changes may also be communicated within the App. Your continued use of the App after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
